Dream Job #2 – Testing Your Chops to The Limit

Remember the internet bubble? I had a front row seat with the news magazine whose mission it was to chronicle the most important shift in our modern economy - to the internet.

I joined The Industry Standard in 1998, the year it launched, working my way up from deputy design director to design director. As director I helped grow the weekly publication from 68 to 330 pages and the art team from four to 35 and was responsible for the overall look of the magazine. Other responsibilities included overseeing all art commissions, key marketing designs, and all projects – including the design and launch of the European edition.

I continued with the magazine until its collapse in 2002, a result of the .com bust.

Sadly all of this work is in storage while i'm in Denmark. I did find the prototype cover online thanks to Matt McAlister. This first issue cover was designed by Design Director, Daniel Carter.
